Ignacia
Feminine
Ignacia is the Spanish feminine of a name that everybody assumes means fire and probably does not. The Latin looks exactly like the word for fire, which is why it has been read that way for centuries, but the oldest forms of it point somewhere else entirely — to an Etruscan family name that Rome absorbed and then forgot the meaning of.

The story of Ignacia
Ignatius of Loyola was a Basque soldier whose leg was shattered by a cannonball at Pamplona, and who had it broken and reset twice more because the first attempt left it ugly and he was vain. Convalescing, he ran out of the romances he liked to read and was given lives of the saints instead, which is how one of the most consequential organizations in European history came to exist. The order he founded ran schools across four continents inside a century, mapped rivers, made astronomical observations for Chinese emperors, and was suppressed by the Pope for forty years before being brought back.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The earliest spelling of the Roman family name lacks the letter that would connect it to the word for fire, and the fire reading appears to be a later tidying-up by people who assumed a Latin name must have a Latin meaning. Etruscan is a language we can read and largely not understand, so a name that came from it arrives with no meaning attached and no prospect of one. The fire association has stuck anyway, helped considerably by the fact that the most famous bearer founded an order with a reputation for intensity.

Fashion outlook
Ignacia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is a serious, old name that has been in continuous use across the Spanish-speaking world for centuries.
- Nacha and Iggy are both available and could not be more different from each other.
- It is genuinely rare in America without being unfamiliar in shape.
- The fire meaning is almost certainly wrong, and she will be told it all her life.
- The English and Spanish pronunciations are quite far apart.
- Three syllables and a formal shape make it a large name for a small child.
