The story of Handy
W.C. Handy, a bandleader from Alabama, was waiting for a train at Tutwiler, Mississippi, when a man beside him began playing guitar with a knife pressed on the strings and singing about the place where the Southern crosses the Dog. Handy later called it the weirdest music he had ever heard, and he went on to write St. Louis Blues and Memphis Blues and to publish the blues for the whole country. As a first name, Handy was given mostly to boys.
