The story of Hadrian
Hadrian built the wall across northern Britain, rebuilt the Pantheon with the inscription of its original builder still on it, and was the first emperor to wear a beard in the Greek fashion. His family name came from a town on the Adriatic — the sea is named for the town, not the reverse. It is in current American use.
Meaning
of Hadria
From the Latin Hadrianus, 'of Hadria', a town in northern Italy whose name gave the Adriatic sea its own. The town's name may relate to a word for dark or for water. The formation is documented and the reading undisputed.

The Davyn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Hadrian's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Davyn climbed just as high around 2007, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Davyn's path sketches the road Hadrian is walking now.
Hadrian sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- Adrian is the commoner English form.
- Three syllables make it moderately long for everyday use.
- It reads as strongly classical.
