Ginelle
Feminine
Gina is what is left when Italian wears down a longer name. Regina, Luigina, Giorgina and Angelina all end in it, and the ending broke free to become a standing name in the twentieth century. Ginelle takes that free-standing short name and makes it long again by adding a French ending — which is a circle, and an entirely ordinary one in American naming.

The story of Ginelle
Italian shortens from the back rather than the front, which is why Gina, Nina, Lina and Rina are all standing names there and why English speakers find them hard to trace. Gina became widely used in America in the middle of the twentieth century. American naming then did what it does with any short name: it added endings. The -elle suffix arrived from French and attaches to almost anything, pulling the stress to the back and adding a syllable. Ginelle is that process applied to a name that was itself the end of something longer.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The compound has no meaning of its own. Gina, the base, has no single one either — it depends entirely on which longer name a family's Gina came out of. Regina means queen; Luigina is the feminine of Luigi and so of Louis; Angelina is the messenger. The -elle ending is French and carries affection rather than sense.

The Tynia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ginelle's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tynia climbed just as high around 1963, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tynia's path sketches the road Ginelle is walking now.
Ginelle sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
