Where it comes from

The story of Francena

In 1360 France struck a new gold coin to raise the ransom for King John II, held captive in England; it showed him on horseback and was called the franc, because it bought his freedom, and the name lasted until the euro. In 1911 Frances Perkins watched workers jump from the burning Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York, and she spent the rest of her life on workplace safety; in 1933 she became Secretary of Labor, the first woman in an American cabinet, and helped build Social Security. Francena was one of the ways families lengthened Frances in the early twentieth century.
