Our story of Fleeta
The Fleet was a river running down into the Thames, and by the eighteenth century it was an open sewer so foul that it was arched over and built on. It is still there, in a pipe, and it still runs; the outfall can be seen at low tide. Fleet Street is named after it, and so is the Fleet Prison that stood on its bank. The word means a tidal creek or a place where water flows, and it turns up all over the east of England in names like Purfleet and Northfleet. London has half a dozen of these buried rivers under it, all of them still flowing, all of them named on maps that nobody consults.

Fashion outlook
Fleeta sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Six letters and two syllables: quick to write and easy to remember.
- It is read correctly at first sight by everybody.
- It is genuinely rare in the American record, which few names can claim.
- The base is an ordinary English word with several senses, which people will pick one of.
- It reads as a name of a much older generation, which is either the appeal or the obstacle.
- No origin is documented, so the meaning question has nothing settled to answer with.
