The story of Felicitas
Two women who carried it and the name of a companion died together in an arena at Carthage, and one of them left an account. The record of their imprisonment includes what is presented as the prisoner's own diary — her arguments with her father, her worry about her infant son, the visions she had in the cell — and if it is genuine it is among the earliest surviving pieces of writing by a Christian woman anywhere. The other woman gave birth in prison days before the games. The text was read aloud in North African churches for centuries afterwards, which is why it survived at all.
Meaning
happiness, good fortune
The abstract noun formed from the adjective meaning lucky. Latin made a great many nouns this way and Christians took several of them as names, which is why the virtue names of the early church sound like a list of qualities.

Fashion outlook
Felicitas sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is the complete Latin word rather than an adaptation of it.
- The meaning is entirely positive and needs no explaining.
- It has established short forms in more than one language.
- Four syllables is long and most people will shorten it immediately.
- The stress placement is contested between the Latin and English readings.
- The generation that used it in America is now elderly.
