Farris and Ferris are British surnames, and one Ferris gave America its most famous fairground ride: George Ferris, an engineer, built a giant turning wheel for the Chicago World's Fair to answer the Eiffel Tower of the Paris fair before it, and every Ferris wheel since carries his name.
