Our story of Estle
The Latin aestus meant a boiling or a surging, and it did two jobs at once: the heat of summer and the movement of the tide. Both are in the modern descendants. An estuary is the tidal mouth of a river, named for the surge rather than the water. To aestivate is to pass the summer in a dormant state, which is what hibernating animals do at the other end of the year, and the word is used for lungfish that seal themselves into mud when a river dries. Aestival means of the summer. The link between heat and surging is a metaphor about boiling: a hot liquid heaves, and so does a tide. Latin saw one phenomenon where English sees two, which is a reasonable summary of what happens whenever one language is translated into another.
Meaningnot established
Not established
It may be a shortening of Estelle or Estella, which mean a star; it may be a surname put to use; or it may be one of the independent builds the eighteen-nineties produced in quantity. Nothing documents any of them, and the record holds it for children of both sexes.
Pronouncing Estle

Fashion outlook
Estle sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Five letters with no ambiguity make it quick to write and simple to spell aloud.
- It works for a child of either sex, which the record confirms.
- Two syllables with front stress is the plainest shape English has.
- Estil, Estelle and Estes will all be written for it.
- It reads as an abbreviation of something longer, and people will ask.
- Nothing records its origin, so the meaning question has two answers and no evidence.
