The story of Errick
One bearer was an early practitioner of advertising. Exiled from Iceland for killing a man, he sailed west, found a large and mostly frozen island, spent three years exploring its habitable fringe, and returned to recruit settlers. The saga records his reasoning about the name: he called the place the green land because, as he put it, people would be much more eager to go there if it had an attractive name. Twenty-five ships sailed; fourteen arrived. The colony lasted about five hundred years and then failed, and the name has been misleading visitors ever since, which makes it one of the oldest pieces of marketing anybody can still check.
