Our story of Elmon
In thunderstorms a blue-white glow sometimes gathers at the tips of masts and spars, an electrical discharge that sailors took as a sign of protection; they called it Saint Elmo's fire, after the patron of sailors, Saint Erasmus of Formia, whose name Italian wore down to Ermo and Elmo. Elmon came from the Elmo and Elmer names of its day. But it shares its sound with a light that sailors were glad to see.
