Dreama
Feminine · “dream”
Dream did not mean sleep in Old English. It meant joy, mirth, music — the noise of a hall with people in it — and the sense of a vision in the night seems to have arrived later, probably from Norse. Dreama is that word with a Latin ending on it, and the word underneath is older and warmer than it looks.

The story of Dreama
The Old English drēam is all over the poetry meaning gladness and the sound of harps, and it never once means a vision in sleep. The word for that was swefn. Then in Middle English the modern sense appears and the old one vanishes, and scholars have argued for a century about whether the word changed its meaning or whether an unrecorded homonym pushed the first one out. Either way, a name built on it in twentieth-century America is standing on ground that shifted once already. The added a is the ordinary American way of making a word name look like a woman's name, the same device that produced Rilla, Verna and Willia.

dream
The modern English word, used as a name with an added vowel. The Old English word spelled the same way meant joy and music, and whether the two are the same word is a real argument among philologists.

Fashion outlook
Dreama sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
