Our story of Domanick
Dominic's insight, arrived at while arguing with heretics in southern France, was that preachers who were poorly educated and visibly comfortable would lose every argument to opponents who were neither. So the order he founded required study: members went to universities, houses had libraries, and the constitution allowed a friar to be excused from communal duties in order to read. Within a generation Dominicans held chairs at Paris and Bologna and the order had produced Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas. The same order also supplied a great many inquisitors, which is the other half of the record and is not separable from the first half.

Fashion outlook
Domanick sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Dom and Nick are both available as short forms and both are thoroughly established.
- The sound is completely familiar, so it is never a puzzle to say.
- The name behind it is used across Europe and Latin America without adjustment.
- Dominic and Dominick are both far commoner, so this spelling will be corrected constantly.
- Neither changed letter can be heard, so the spelling has to be given aloud every single time.
- No reason for the respelling is documented, so there is nothing to say when someone asks.
