The month of March is his; the field where the army mustered was his; the wolf and the woodpecker were his birds and beasts; and the personal name built on him was one of a very short list that Roman men were allowed. That list is the reason Roman names look so repetitive — about eighteen first names in general use across an entire civilization, so that a household could easily hold three men with the same one, distinguished only by what came after.
