The story of Demetrick
The youngest son of Ivan the Terrible died at eight, stabbed in the throat in a provincial town, and the official inquiry ruled that he had done it himself during an epileptic fit while playing with a knife. Almost nobody believed it. When the dynasty failed a decade later, a young man appeared in Poland claiming to be the prince, saying he had been smuggled out and another boy killed in his place. He raised an army, marched on Moscow, was crowned tsar, and ruled for eleven months before being murdered by the boyars, who burned his body and reportedly fired the ashes from a cannon in the direction of Poland. Then a second claimant appeared, gathered an army and set up a rival court outside Moscow. Then a third. The period is still called the Time of Troubles, and the central fact about it is that a country could not establish whether a child had died.
Meaning

Built on the name of the Greek grain goddess with an ending meaning belonging to. It was extremely common in the Greek and Slavic world, which is why it produced Dmitri, Dimitrios, Dumitru and a long list of others. Fashion outlook
Demetrick sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The k ending produces Rick as a short form, which the standard spelling cannot.
- The name behind it is genuinely ancient and used across half of Europe.
- The stress falls where an English reader expects.
- Demetrius, Demetrios and Demetric are all recorded and will be written for it.
- The k ending is not found in any language the name passed through.
- Three syllables and an unfamiliar ending make it hard to spell from hearing.
