The story of Deepak
In Hindustani music, Raag Deepak is the raga of the lamp, and a famous legend tells how the court singer Tansen was ordered by the emperor Akbar to sing it, and the lamps of the hall lit themselves, while the heat of the raga burned the singer until rain was called down by another raga. The name Deepak carries that image of light kindled by song. Its feminine, Deepika, is equally common, so brothers and sisters in the same family often share the lamp.
