Origin, sound and short forms
Our story of Deatra
In Latin, 'to the gods' and 'to the goddesses' would both have come out as deis, so Latin made a special form, deabus, for the goddesses, and did the same with filiabus, 'to the daughters', so they would not be mistaken for sons. Deatra did not come from Latin; it came from the Deirdre and Deidra names of its day. But it opens with the word Rome kept separate for its goddesses.
