The story of Dasha
Darius the Great left the Behistun inscription carved into a cliff in three languages, which is how Old Persian cuneiform was deciphered — so the name's meaning comes from the king's own words. Russian made Daria and the everyday Dasha, which is among the commonest Russian girls' names. It is in current American use.
Meaning
possessing goodness
Through Daria, the feminine of Darius, from the Old Persian Darayavaush — daraya, 'to hold', and vahu, 'good'. Darius the Great's own inscriptions carry the name. Dasha is the Russian diminutive. The Old Persian is documented from the rock inscriptions themselves.

The Lynnda test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dasha's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lynnda climbed just as high around 1951, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lynnda's path sketches the road Dasha is walking now.
Dasha sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
