Where it comes from

The story of Cyndie

On the tiny island of Delos, the hill called Kynthos was said to be where Leto gave birth to Artemis and Apollo, and Artemis was called Kynthia after it; English poets later used Cynthia for the moon. The pet form Cindy followed, spelled many ways. Cyndi Lauper recorded Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a song first written by a man about a man's pursuit of women, and rewrote the lyrics so that it became a song about women's own joy.
