The story of Corine
Korinna was a Greek lyric poet of the fifth or third century BC, said to have competed against Pindar. The name reached English through Latin, and Robert Herrick's 'Corinna's going a-Maying' of 1648 made it a standard pastoral name in English verse. French produced Corinne, and American families used both spellings, with Corine peaking around 1918.
Meaning
maiden, girl
From the Greek kore, 'maiden' or 'girl', through the name Korinna. Kore was also the title used for Persephone in the Eleusinian mysteries, where naming her outright was avoided. The Greek statues of standing young women are called korai from the same word.

Fashion outlook
Corine sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- A documented Greek poet stands behind it, and the kore connection is genuinely interesting.
- The end stress gives it a distinct rhythm against a front-stressed surname.
- Cori and Rina are two short forms at very different registers.
- Corinne is the commoner spelling and will often be assumed.
- It is period-coded to the early twentieth century in American records.
