Our story of Coraima
In the Sierra Madre Occidental of Nayarit, in western Mexico, live a people Spanish calls the Cora; they call themselves Náayeri, and their Holy Week ceremonies, in which painted men take over the villages, are among the most striking in Mexico. Coraima was not taken from them; it is a Latin American name whose origin nobody has recorded. But its opening sound belongs to a mountain people who kept their own name for themselves.
