Our story of Christia
The chi-rho is the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ, laid one over the other, and its first prominent appearance is military. Constantine is reported to have had it painted on his soldiers' shields before the battle that made him sole emperor, after a vision the sources describe differently from each other. It then went onto the imperial standard, onto coins, and only afterward into churches, mosaics and manuscripts. An emblem that a modern reader takes as purely devotional was, at the moment it entered the record, a mark on military equipment, and the two associations have been tangled ever since.

Fashion outlook
Christia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Chris and Tia are both available as short forms and both work on their own.
- The word behind it is understood everywhere in the Christian world.
- It is recorded for boys and for girls, so it leaves a question open rather than closing it.
- The spelling is recorded for a few boys, but nearly every child with it is a girl.
- Christa and Christie are both commoner, so the spelling will be checked back with you.
- It states a religious identity plainly, which is a feature for many families and a consideration for others.
