Our story of Chessie
In 1933 the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway used an etching of a kitten curled up asleep under a blanket, with the line 'Sleep like a kitten', to advertise its air-conditioned sleeping cars; she was named Chessie, after the railroad, and became so popular that she appeared on calendars, stationery and, much later, the name of a whole railroad system. The earlier Chessies of the record were not named for her, but the name has kept her softness ever since.
