The story of Cassandre
Adolphe Mouron, a Ukrainian-born French designer, signed his work Cassandre, and his posters, the great liner Normandie seen from the waterline, the sleek trains of the Nord Express, changed commercial art. Late in his career he drew the interlocking letters of the Yves Saint Laurent monogram, still used today. Cassandre is otherwise simply the French spelling of Cassandra, and American families used it as that.
