The story of Carine
The ancient constellation Argo Navis, Jason's ship, was so large that the eighteenth-century astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille divided it into three: Carina, the keel; Puppis, the stern; and Vela, the sails. Carina holds Canopus, the second-brightest star in the night sky. Carine is a French name in its own right, a form of Karine, and it has always been rare in America.

A French form of Karin, or a build on Cara
Carine is used in France as a form of Karine, from Katherine. An American Carine may instead be a build on Cara, 'dear'; nothing records which.
