The flower's genus contains something most people would not connect to it. Camellia sinensis is the tea plant: every cup of black, green, white and oolong tea in the world comes from the leaves of a camellia, and the ornamental ones grown for their flowers are its close relatives. The genus was named in the eighteenth century after a missionary pharmacist who had cataloged the plants of the Philippines and sent his descriptions to Europe; Linnaeus attached his Latinized surname to a group he had never worked on, which was a common courtesy of the period. So a shrub in a garden, a cup of tea and a Jesuit's name are all one word, and none of that has anything to do with the Roman name it resembles.
