Meaning
the exalted one
From the Irish Brígh or Brigit, from a Celtic root meaning 'high' or 'exalted', cognate with the Sanskrit brhati. The goddess Brigid governed poetry, smithing and healing. Saint Brigid of Kildare inherited much of her. The etymology is documented.
