The story of Annaka
Hannah appears in the first book of Samuel, and the Greek Anna carried her name into the New Testament, where a prophetess of that name meets the infant Jesus in the temple. From there it spread into every European language and became so common that it generated dozens of extensions: Annika, Anneke, Anouk, Annette, Anita. American families in the later twentieth century, meeting those forms, built their own versions on the same pattern. Annaka keeps the base name fully visible, which most of the Scandinavian forms do not, and that is the practical difference between it and its close relative Anneka.
Meaning
favor, grace
From Hebrew Channah, meaning favor or grace, through the Greek Anna of the Septuagint. The added ending in this spelling carries no meaning of its own — it is a sound, borrowed from the Scandinavian and Dutch diminutives of the same name.
