The story of Alyshia
Alicia was made by clerks. Through the Middle Ages every legal and church record in England was written in Latin, and a woman called Alice had to be entered in a Latin form, so scribes wrote Alicia because Latin needed an ending it could decline. That was a document form and not a name anyone was called. Then, as happens whenever a written form is seen often enough, people started using it, and by the eighteenth century Alicia was a real name with real bearers who had never been called Alice at all. The American respellings came much later and work on the third syllable, which is said as a plain sh; Alisha, Alysha and Alyshia all write that sound out, and this one adds a y at the front for good measure.
Meaning
Noble kind
The Germanic original joins a word meaning noble to one meaning sort or kind, in the sense of a family's quality rather than a person's manners. French wore it down to Alis and English to Alice, losing most of the letters and all of the transparency. Everything after that is spelling: Alicia adds nothing to the meaning, and neither does this.

Pronouncing Alyshia
uh-LEE-shuh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle. The y in the first syllable is silent in effect, since the vowel it stands for is reduced to almost nothing, so this spelling is said exactly as Alisha and Aleesha are.

Fashion outlook
Alyshia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The spoken name is entirely familiar, so it is never repeated back, only spelled.
- It has a documented line running all the way to a Germanic compound, which few respellings can claim.
- Two short forms in different registers, one soft and one sharp.
- There are at least five spellings of this sound in wide use, and this is one of the rarer ones.
- The y buys nothing that can be heard, and a child may ask what it was for.
- Alicia is the standard written form and will be substituted by people who assume they misread.
