Where it comes from

The story of Aleksa

Aleksa Šantić, a poet of Mostar, wrote Emina, a few lines about a beautiful girl glimpsed in a garden, and it was set to music and became one of the most loved sevdalinka songs of Bosnia. For him and for countless Serbian men, Aleksa is a boy's name. In America the same spelling arrived as Alexa written with a k, and it has been given nearly always to girls, so one name carries opposite expectations in two places.
