The story of Akim
Joachim is named in later tradition as the father of Mary — he does not appear in the canonical gospels but in the second-century Protoevangelium of James, which supplied a great deal of what medieval Europe believed about Mary's early life. The name became widespread in Orthodox and Catholic Europe. Russian gives both Ioakim and the clipped Akim, which is the everyday form.
Meaning
the Lord will raise up
From Hebrew Yehoyakim, joining a shortened divine name to a root meaning to raise or establish. Russian wore the Greek Ioakim down to Akim, dropping the front of the name entirely.

The Nathanel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Akim's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nathanel climbed just as high around 1929, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nathanel's path sketches the road Akim is walking now.
Akim sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
